The gym Meet the owner.
Josh runs CrossFit Prior Lake, a CrossFit affiliate in a commuter town south-west of the Twin Cities. It is the kind of gym the model was built for: a coached class, a whiteboard, a room where people know each other's names and notice when someone stops turning up. Most affiliate owners are also the billing department, the programmer, the person who places the retail order and the one who runs the Instagram. That is roughly the job description across North America.
He was sitting at 81 members. For an affiliate that is a real business and a real community, but it is also the number where the maths gets tight: every member who moves away, gets injured or quietly stops coming is a visible dent in the roster, and there is nothing spare to absorb it.
